Cute and Quirky Ways to Keep Cozy

Clockwise from top: J.Crew Frenchie sweater ($98), Wildfox Couture Stag Baggy Beach Jumper ($123), Forever21 Striped Bow Pullover ($15.80), Burberry Prorsum Owl cashmere sweater ($1,295), Forever21 Ditsy Heart Print sweater ($24.80), Burberry Brit Fox sweater ($495), Madewell Counting Sheep Sweater ($108), Wildfox Couture Sequin Heart V-Neck sweater ($178)

Why yes, I have made a wreath of sweaters this week! With winter starting early this year, it’s important, now more than ever, to layer up with a good cozy sweater. This season, feel free to dig up that hideous sweater your aunt gave you for Christmas years ago–yes, that overly cheery sweater you only wear during the holiday season.

Newly redefined as “quirky,” sweaters of all patterns–especially the ones with the cute animals on them–are an instant hit. Even the fashion elite have picked up on the trend, adding in a cute critter here and there on the Fashion Week 2012 runways. The owl sweater from Burberry Prorsum (as shown here on the bottom right) was an instant hit, selling out despite its hefty price tag.

For more budget friendly, yet still equally playful alternatives, J.Crew and Wildfox both offer sweaters animated with quirky graphics. I would opt for J.Crew for a streamlined Parisian-chic look, while Wildfox provides you with an array of options geared towards an edgier girl who isn’t afraid to go grunge.

If you’re on a tight college budget, take a look at Forever21. They offer a vast range of graphic sweaters splashed with characters like Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse, but more subtly sweet patterned options are available as well. From animals to cartoons, from hearts to bows, there are countless ways to remain stylish this season.

You can even dig into your own closet and find that one sweater way in the back that you thought you’d never wear–there’s no better time to do that than right now, when quirky is the new “it” trend for the winter. Regardless of which style you choose, don’t forget to bundle up this season!
