Couture for the College Girl

Go for Gingham

One of the top trends for the spring-summer 2017 season is classic gingham. This simple, polished pattern is currently present in almost all clothing stores. You can find the print on dresses, skirts, tops, bags, shoes-you name it! Whether you choose to rock a plain gingham piece or one with some embroidery and fun embellishments, it is a great addition to your sunny weather wardrobe.

Below are some looks featured in the House of Holland Spring/Summer 2017 Ready to Wear Collection.

And of course some everyday ways to style the look…

1. Trousers

These cute gingham frill trousers from Topshop can be dressed up or down, and are perfect for those early spring days that are too chilly for shorts. To sport these at work, pair them with a white oxford or linen blouse and some plain flats. For a day out in the city, try pairing a pastel monochromatic tank (tucked-in or slightly cropped!) with neutral sandals. For going out, try a leather jacket and pumps.

2. Midi-Skirt

This A-line gingham midi-skirt from Poshsquare is detailed with fun bow at the waist and is perfect for the girly girls. For a special event, wear it with some open-toed heels and a high-neck lace top. The added texture is unexpected and playful! For a more casual outfit, a basic neutral tank with a denim jacket over top and some bright sandals is a fabulous option.

3. Romper

This gingham cami romper from ASOS can be worn three ways: you can wear it by itself, layer a white-tee underneath, or layer a chambray oxford on top (or possibly tied-up in front). To add a stylish element to the outfit, go for some a long necklace or a cute hair accessory like a wrap headband. Mix patterns by trying some floral flats in a fun color. Just make sure to keep everything else neutral! For cooler weather, layer with a cardigan, over-the-knee socks, and riding boots.

Gingham can be spotted almost anywhere you go this season. Check out these additional looks for some inspiration.
